General Local Information:

There are several websites with a lot of local information about Toronto:

www.toronto.ca - Toronto’s ‘official’ website. Includes the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) website.

www.toronto.com - Information about events, movies, theatre, restaurants, hotels, shopping, dining, etc.

www.torontotourism.com - Hotel information, vistor services, tours - the ‘official’ tourism website.

For restaurant information in particular, there are two sites that have links to restaurants that have their menus online (they seem to list the same restaurants).
www.menupalace.com
www.menu101.com
Many smaller restaurants are not listed. Stay tuned for guide to restaurants near the conference centre and more information on hotels close to the Sheraton Centre.

Vegetarian Steakhouses Mediterranean/Greek French
Italian Pubs, Bars and Grills Wine Bars and Bistros Cajun and Creole
Chain Restaurants Indian Thai Asian
Fusion Mexican/Tex Mex Japanese International Cuisine
Fast Food Other areas to eat

This is not an exhaustive list of restaurants but it should get you started. Many restaurants are quite small so it is best to call ahead if you plan to go in a big group. Restaurants in the theatre district (green area) and closer to the waterfront tend to be more expensive, and those in Chinatown (yellow area) and closer to the University of Toronto tend to be cheaper. Many restaurants post a menu at the door or in a window so you can see what you're in for.

Some retaurants in Toronto have a bring-your-own wine policy, but a corking fee applies, which can be high, so call ahead first.

Other areas to eat:

Little Italy: Mostly Italian restaurants with some wine bars, along College St between Bathurst St. and Grace St.

Greektown: Primarily Greek restaurants, but also includes some Thai, Japanese, and many pubs and sports bars, along the Danforth between Chester and Pape subway stations.

Little Indian: Concentrated area of Indian restaurants and stores, along Gerrard St at Coxwell St. (take the College/Carlton streetcar).

Chinatown: Mostly Chinese, but also Vietnamese, Thai and some Japanese restaurants along Spadina Ave between Dundas St W and College St., and along Dundas St W close to Spadina Ave.

Bring your own wine policy: Ontario restaurants are allowed to let customers bring their own wine. Not all restaurants allow this and those that do charge a de-corking fee, which can be high. If you want to bring your own wine, it is best to call ahead first.
